Our second branch was opened in May of 2002 in Nevada, Iowa. In August of 1982, the Credit Union made the move from NADC on Dayton Road to it's current office just off of Interstate 35 on East 13th Street in Ames, Iowa. In 1980, the Credit Union enlarged its field of membership, installed its first "online computer system" and changed its name to River Valley Credit Union.

At that time, interest rates were at historic highs. Services continued to expand with the eventual introduction of share draft (checking) accounts in 1978. The first Credit Union manager/employee was hired in 1972. In those days, the Credit Union offered one basic savings account and one type of loan.

Credit Union business was often conducted on lunch hours, breaks, or after hours by board members. Over the next few years, membership was expanded to employees of Federal Government Agencies located in Story County, as well as their families.įor many years, the Credit Union was run solely by the Board of Directors. In October of 1961, employees of the National Animal Disease Laboratory banded together and signed articles of incorporation to form a credit union.
